Regulus Arcturus Black is the second son of Orion and Walburga Black. His older brother is Sirius Black. Regulus was the quieter of the brothers and followed the family tradition without much argument. He joined the Death Eaters when he was seventeen and died within a year.

Regulus Arcturus Black is the second son of Walburga and Orion Black. Raised in London, England by a very strict mother, Regulus is a very proper and polite and highly spoiled. His older brother, Sirius, was rather a troublemaker growing up and often displeased his mother with his outspokenness and blatant disregard for tradition. Therefore Regulus was doted upon and molded into the perfect son of the Noble House of Black, one who believed that pureblooded witches and wizards were better than anyone else in the world. He didn’t necessarily follow along with his family’s beliefs though, just put up the pretense of it to please his mother.

Growing up, he always looked up to his older brother, admiring him and idolizing him. Sirius always looked out for Regulus, too; whenever Regulus did something wrong, Sirius would take the blame. They were quite close as boys. When Sirius entered Hogwarts, though, the prestigious magic school in England, things began to change. He was sorted into a House other than Slytherin - the only acceptable House in the Black family - and their mother made sure to poison Regulus’ mind against his brother while the other boy was away, and Sirius neglected to come home on holidays, so the already insecure Regulus was certain that his brother didn’t really care about him any more, just like their mother told him. The following year it was Regulus’ turn to enter Hogwarts, and he was sorted into Slytherin, as was the usual way of things. Sirius didn’t talk to Regulus, and Regulus was too nervous and hurt to approach his brother himself. And so the brother’s drifted apart, leading for Regulus to seek solace in the form of new friends, and of his older cousin, Bellatrix.

Just as manipulative as Walburga, Bellatrix began to warp the impressionable Regulus’ mind. There was a war on the horizon, and Bellatrix was trying to recruit her cousin to the side that would be ‘cleansing the world of Mudbloods and Muggles alike’. Regulus, having no one else showing any interest in his life, allowed himself to be influenced by her and the others like her, those calling themselves ‘Death Eaters’. It was around this time that his brother finally began taking an interest in what Regulus was doing, but by then the damage had been done. Sirius had already moved out, leaving Regulus fully behind him. And as much as Regulus wanted to stand by his brother, he wouldn’t just roll over and take this any more, he had to stand up for himself in some way, even though this was probably not the best option. Sirius was too proud to offer an apology or even admit that he was wrong on some level, and Regulus, too, had too much pride to just allow his brother to treat him as he had and then expect him to come running back at the drop of a hat.

And so, when Regulus turned sixteen, he joined the Dark Lord’s forces, the Death Eaters. His brother had already joined the Order of the Phoenix. Their mother was proud of Regulus, her good son. He had been everything his brother hadn’t been, but Regulus wasn’t really happy with his life. He’d never done anything for himself, it had all been for his family, or to keep his mother happy. And so he decided, after his first horrible mission in which he had to torture and kill one of his own classmates, that he wanted nothing to do with this. So he used all of his cunning and intelligence to find out the secrets of the Dark Lord, to try and find a way to bring him down. Finally, after almost a full year, Regulus found out a way to start the Dark Lord’s downfall.

In order to successfully pull it off, Regulus had to fake his own death, to make sure that the Dark Lord didn’t suspect him and to keep his family from suspicion. He moved out of England, to Australia, where he lived for three years, fully integrating himself into the Australian Magical and Muggle communities. In his time in Sydney, Regulus decided that he wanted to study the different Magical communities around the world, starting with America, and so he took the soonest flight out of Sydney to the states that he could, Oceanic Air Flight 815.


What was the reason your character was in Australia? To hide out after faking his death.
What skills does your character have? He is cunning, and rather lithe, flexible and nimble.
What are your character's strengths and weaknesses? Strengths: cunning, perceptiveness; Weaknesses: selfishness
What personal challenges and struggles do you think your character will face as a result of being on the island? (This could range from physical to emotional or psychological) Regulus is not particular strong, so he would have some difficulty fending for himself. He also had a difficult time with relationships growing up, so he could have some issues dealing with other survivors initially.
In 100 or more words, why do you want to play this character? I would like to play Regulus because I find him to be quite an appealing character, and I would love to discover what his reaction to being trapped on The Island would be, and how he would cope. I’ve played Regulus for about two years now, and am still interested in finding out new things about him. I would like to see how he would grow as a person, and how he would end up contributing to the group. As a character who is used to being able to summon or create things using magic, seeing how he would deal with not being able to use that magic and having to rely on himself could be rather interesting as well.
